Fats are also known as fatty acids, lipids, and oils. They are an essential part of a good diet. Unfortunately, many "fat” choices are unhealthy. This includes margarine, man-made "smart” butter substitutes, and many cooking oils. We also eat more animal fats representing omega 6 and saturated fats verses omega 3 fats. Fish oil is an excellent source of omega-3 essential fatty acids. These include DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). DHA is stored in the body. This long-chain fatty acid supports the proper functioning of the brain, eyes, & nervous system. EPA is not stored in the body & therefore must be continuously supplied. This Omega-3 fatty acid supports the body’s circulatory system & immune system. Fish oil is a great supplement if you have diabetes, heart disease, or inflammatory conditions.
